Pink Shorts Suit and Purple Prom Vest

May 2018

Dancer/Choreographer Myles Thatcher wanted to appear at the premier of his new ballet Otherness in a pink suit with shorts instead of pants, so that his outfit would coordinate with the pink and blue unitards that would appear on stage. He asked me to help him out, and I managed to squeeze it in among all the other frantic building that was going on at the time by using a basic retail suit pattern that I altered according to Myles's tastes. He loved the idea of a contrasting lining (I hand-dyed the silk myself to get the right color) so it would be like a fun surprise just for him. I then ended up using the same vest pattern to make my nephew Colt a vest, tie, and pocket square combo for his junior prom out of hand-dyed purple silk charmeuse with a black-and-silver embroidered organza overlay and rhinestone buttons.
