Hamlet Shut Up

Sacred Fools Theatre, Los Angeles CA, November 2009

Hamlet Shut Up was a comedic retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet without any dialogue, but plenty of sound and action.  We needed costumes that spoke for themselves, and could be changed quickly and easily.  It also needed to be able to pack away into the set pieces for travel to the Fringe Festival. The director and producer wanted an anachronistic period look, and the budget necessitated a design that could be shopped for cheap.  I decided to thrift modern understructure and construct late medieval outerwear and mixed accessories. Also, I got to build a shark, which was awesome. The show was well-received at the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival, making this my first design to appear on stage in New York.
