Forbidden Zone: Live in the 6th Dimension

Sacred Fools Theatre, Los Angeles CA, May 2010

Forbidden Zone: Live in the 6th Dimension is a fun, campy musical that follows the exploits of the Hercules family after they discover that the house they’ve just purchased from a pimp in Venice, California contains a portal to the 6th dimension in its basement. I drew inspiration for the 6th dimension characters from animals, hyperdimensional geometric forms, and cubist painting, making all the costumes asymmetrical so the pieces change according to viewing angle. The real world characters were all done in grayscale with mostly symmetrical forms both to mimic the feel of the original film and to provide maximum contrast to the bright, skewed look of the redesigned 6th dimension characters. I’d like to give special thanks to Martin Morse, a volunteer who patterned, built, and finished Satan’s jacket and vest and patterned and built Doris’s Jellyfish Dress for me, saving me lots of time.
